KUALA LUMPUR, 17 June 2026 – SAIC Motor Malaysia brought together MG owners and automotive enthusiasts at the MG Car Club Gathering held in conjunction with the KL International Mobility Show 2026 (KLIMS 2026).
Held over the weekend of KLIMS 2026, the gathering saw 39 privately owned vehicles converge in a vibrant showcase of passion, heritage and innovation. The line-up comprised 34 modern MG Electric Vehicles (EVs) alongside five classic MG models, highlighting the brand’s remarkable evolution from timeless British motoring heritage to modern electrified mobility.
The event brought together members of Kelab MG Malaysia, one of the country’s longest-standing automotive clubs, and MG EV Club Malaysia, reflecting the growing and increasingly diverse community of MG owners united by a shared passion for the brand.
Hoffen Teh the Chief Operating Officer of SAIC Motor Malaysia said the ownership of MG extends beyond the vehicle itself. It is about belonging to a passionate and connected community.
“Gatherings such as this create meaningful opportunities for heritage and modern MG owners to connect, exchange stories and celebrate their shared appreciation for the brand. They also allow prospective customers to experience firsthand the strong sense of community that makes MG ownership unique,” said Teh. “The gathering reflects SAIC Motor Malaysia’s continued commitment to nurturing meaningful engagement with customers and enthusiasts, while strengthening MG’s presence in Malaysia as the brand expands its electrified mobility offerings.”
Haresh Chandnani, President of Kelab MG Malaysia, shared that the club, established 50 years ago, is among the country’s oldest automotive communities formed by passionate MG owners.
“Kelab MG Malaysia was founded by enthusiasts with a passion for preserving and celebrating these iconic vehicles. Today, we continue to foster friendships while sharing knowledge on restoration, maintenance and ownership experiences,” said Chandnani.
Joining the celebration was MG EV Club Malaysia, representing a new generation of MG enthusiasts embracing electric mobility. The club currently has approximately 360 members nationwide.
The gathering showcased a diverse mix of MG’s electrified lineup and heritage models. Among the modern EVs on display were MGS5 EV, MG ZS, MG4 and Cyberster, reflecting the increasing adoption of MG’s electrified mobility offerings in Malaysia. Adding a touch of heritage to the event were classic MG models from the 1960s and 1970s, including the MG TD, MG YT (Tourer), MG Midget, MGB GT, and the MGA, underscoring the brand’s rich legacy and broad owner appeal across generations.
Johnny Chandnani, Past President of Kelab MG Malaysia, highlighted that the longevity of these classic vehicles reflects the passion and dedication of their owners.
“As we celebrate 50 years of Kelab MG Malaysia, it is rewarding to see heritage models and modern MG vehicles come together, reflecting the evolution of a brand admired for more than a century,” said Chandnani.
Meanwhile, President of MG EV Club Malaysia, James Lew En Loong reflected on his personal journey with the brand and the unique experience of seeing MG’s heritage and future converge.
“My journey with MG began when I switched to an EV in 2025, drawn by the brand’s technology and driving experience. Seeing modern MG EVs alongside heritage models today offered a unique glimpse into the brand’s rich legacy,” said Lew. “As more MG EV models enter the market and charging infrastructure expands, we look forward to welcoming a more diverse community of owners. We are proud to be part of MG’s ongoing evolution and excited for the future of the community.”
Visitors and participants were also encouraged to join the #MyMGKLIMSMoment2026 social media contest, running from 12 to 21 June 2026.
